Workshop Botanical Casting Wall Art
Are you inspired by Botanical Art & Crafts?
Class 1-4pm
Join us for a hands-on botanical plaster casting workshop with Jen from Stem Botanicals. You'll learn to create beautiful, nature-inspired relief artworks. Begin with a short introduction to the history of plaster casting and Jen's personal journey into the craft. See lots of examples from Jen's own portfolio!
Then prepare a flawless clay base, essential for a clean cast, before selecting and arranging botanical materials with care and creativity. All materials and equipment provided, simply bring an open mind and enthusiasm. If you'd like to bring things from your garden or local area please feel free!
Once you're happy with your design, you'll learn how to seal the mold and mix/ pour plaster to capture every delicate detail. While the casts dry, an opportunity to experiment with painting pre-made plaster roundels to take away. Finally, you will demold your pieces and go over drying and finishing techniques. Leave with a unique botanical artwork and the knowledge to continue the process at home.
Students take away 1 x small painted roundel ready to hang and a larger 20cm diameter wall art piece (also ready to hang) dry at home for 7 days.
Please note, a wire loop is sunk into the reverse of the plaster piece when wet, no need to add a fixing - the plaster is super lightweight when dry, the same material used for traditional coving and ceiling roses, Jen recommends hang at home using standard picture hooks and tacks.
