Coastal Collage Art Cards: Abstract Seascapes in Mixed Media
Like working with paint and collage?
Make a set of modern seascape collage art cards in this beginner-friendly mixed media art class, led by local artist Lena (Lena and the Sea). If you love painting, collage, paper craft, art journaling, or card making, this workshop is designed to help you create layered coastal pieces that look like mini artworks.
You’ll begin by building your own stash of hand-painted collage papers, working wet with paint and inks to create abstract washes, colour blends, and expressive marks. Lena will show you easy mark-making techniques using brushes plus found tools and everyday objects, so you can create texture, movement, and unexpected coastal colour combinations (think sea blues, horizons, foam, and weathered surfaces).
While your papers dry, you’ll see examples of Lena’s distinctive work and hear about her inspirations and process, with time for questions throughout.
Next, you’ll switch to dry media to add detail and depth using pastels, charcoal, pencils and pens. You can hint at coastal elements such as waves, birds, boats, rocks, lines and map-like marks, keeping everything playful and experimental.
Finally, you’ll learn the artist’s secret that makes these pieces look so polished: editing and cropping. You’ll select the strongest sections of your mixed media sheets, trim them into satisfying compositions, then mount them onto crisp white card to create finished handmade greeting cards or small framed artworks, take home a set of 6 in total
All materials and equipment are provided. If you have interesting papers at home, bring them along: newspapers, old book pages, maps, music sheets, wrapping paper, scrapbook scraps.
