Discover the secrets of the humble onion skin in this ecofriendly textile workshop, using sustainable methods and materials & hosted by local textile artist Maggie Pearson.
Class 1:30 - 4:30pm
Maggie will introduce you to the colourful dyes and prints you can create from this wonderful natural dye resource which hides in plain sight in your kitchen. Rather than lob onion skins into your waste or compost, save them up to use in this fun workshop.
You'll learn how to extract pigment from onion skins and use it to dye a unique design on an organic cotton tote bag or tea towel. You'll also learn to print a fine wool gauze or peace silk scarf with onion skins, using sustainable materials and methods in my trusty fish kettle. (peace silk is the most humane way to harvest silk from silk worms)
Your beautiful unique creations would make ideal gifts which will be cherished all the more because you made them lovingly by hand, using sustainable materials and methods.
Everything you will need for this class is provided by us, including:
- tea towels/tote bag at cost £3
- wool, silk or wool/silk for scarf at cost £11
Terms and conditions of booking: We do not offer refunds on tickets. In the case of illness or other unforeseen circumstances we can offer a change of class OR you can transfer your ticket to somebody else allowing us to try to fill your space, please consider late changes mean a loss for Clever Hands and affects our business.
