Hidden shapes abstract hand stitch for beginners
If you’ve ever felt the urge to paint, stitch, or make something—yet found yourself staring at blank fabric or paper with no idea where to begin...this workshop is for you.
Even experienced artists encounter creative blocks. In this relaxed and exploratory session, Diane Moore, a local artist working in textiles, paint, and mixed media, will show you how to move past that stuck feeling.
You’ll learn how to let go of planning and design by creating a random, abstract, hand-stitched textile piece, using paper as your unexpected starting point you will crinkle and doodle! Just follow the natural crease lines of the paper to find a surprise map of where and how to stitch! The process is freeing, intuitive, and often delightfully surprising. We do not use a sewing machine - all by hand. For those who would like to work directly onto a tote bag we sell various colours shapes and sizes in our shop! or bring your own. Why not work directly onto part of a denim jacket or trouser pocket!
No embroidery experience is needed. Diane will help with colour combinations and textures. You simply need to be able to thread a needle and sew a basic straight stitch. A few additional simple stitches will be demonstrated on the day.
All materials are provided, and you’ll leave not only with a finished piece of textile art, but also with a technique you can return to whenever inspiration feels out of reach.
Simply purchase your ticket, make a note in your diary and turn up! We do everything else. For terms and conditions of booking, please visit our policy section.
