Take your lino printing skills further in this 3-hour intermediate workshop, exploring two more advanced approaches to creating layered, multi-colour prints: reduction printing and multi-block printing.

This class is designed for those who already have some experience of lino cutting and printing and are confident using basic tools and techniques. It is not suitable for complete beginners.

During the session, you will learn how to plan a design for more than one colour, register each layer accurately and build up a finished image through successive stages of printing.

We will explore:

• Reduction lino printing, where the same block is gradually carved away and printed in stages to create multiple colours
• Multi-block printing, using separate lino blocks for different areas or colours within your design
• Planning and simplifying an image for layered print
• Registration techniques to help line up each colour
• Colour choices and layering
• Inking and printing for a clean, consistent result
• How to avoid common problems when working with several layers

You will work through demonstrations and practical exercises before developing your own layered print to take home.

This is a great next step if you have already completed a beginner lino printing class or have some experience at home and would like to develop more confidence with multi-colour printmaking techniques.
