Machine Sewing for Beginners Tote bag Part 2 of 2
Already some machine experience but want to learn how to make something?
This class is for you, and students who completed our part 1 of sewing machine class...OR...refer to our list of basics covered by our Part 1 class, ensure you are able with those skills.
Meet Scarlett of Afrayed Upcycling....she bring a wealth of experience when it comes to machine stitch technique & garment making. A small group means you will have lots of opportunity to ask Scarlett our tutor any questions that arise - and a sewing machine is provided for you on the day. Scarlett will guide you through the process step by step and by the end of the workshop, you'll have 2 stylish items to take away - an eco-friendly tote bag and zipped pouch.
At the start of the class, we will have a quick refresher on how to use the sewing machine then we will dive right into making our bags and pouches!
Sundays - 12 midday to 4pm (Oct and Nov dates to choose from)
- How to apply interfacing to your fabric
- How to attach a patch pocket (either in the lining or outer fabric)
- How to insert a zip with a zipper foot
- Please bring:
- Outer fabric - 1 metre (for both 140cm and 115cm wide fabric). Suggested fabrics medium weight woven fabrics such as cotton and canvas.
- Lining fabric - 1 metre (for both 140cm and 115cm wide fabric)
- Zips will be provided however if you want to bring your own, please choose a zip that is 10 inches in length.
Bring a notebook for notes if you prefer, a handout is provided to take away.
This class is ideal for complete beginners aged 14+. You’re never too young, old to learn to sew, so if it’s something you’ve been putting off, why not come and join this vibrant and friendly space to finally get you on your sewing journey!
