Machine Sewing for Beginners Part 1 of 2
This beginner sewing machine class is for ABSOLUTE beginners or anyone with some experience who needs a refresher. By the end of the class, we guarantee you will no longer be scared of a sewing machine - trust me, it’s easier than you think!
Meet Scarlett of Afrayed Upcycling....she bring a wealth of experience when it comes to machine stitch technique & garment making. A small group means you will have lots of opportunity to ask Scarlett any questions that arise - and a sewing machine along with everything else is provided for you on the day, just bring yourself! (any fabrics you have can also bring but not essential) Choose from Part 1, Part 2 and come to both.

- Getting to know your machine - understanding parts and functions
- How to thread a sewing machine
- Winding a bobbin and knowledge of it's function
- How to change a needle and knowledge of different needles
- Knowledge of essential sewing tools for beginners
- Practising a range of basic stitches, including straight, zig-zag and adjusting the stitch settings
- How to troubleshoot common beginner issues (like tangled thread or skipped stitches)
- Tips for cutting, pinning, and feeding fabric through the machine
- Knowledge of different fabric types
And if time allows it, you will also learn:
- Simple seam finishes
- Starting a small project to take home
By the end of the session, you’ll go home with sewing samples and projects that reflect what you have learnt in this class along with the confident to continue at home...
All sewing equipment, materials, and tools are included. Bring a notebook for notes if you prefer, a handout is provided to take away.
This class is ideal for complete beginners aged 14+. Never too late to learn a new skill, so if it’s something you’ve been putting off, why not come and join this vibrant and friendly space to finally get you on your sewing journey!

Unopened kits can be returned within 14 days of purchase. Unfortunately, we can’t accept returns once a kit has been opened.
