Come along to a scrap busting workshop with Scarlett from Afrayed Upcycling for an introduction to the sustainable world of upcycling using cloth....fabric...textiles.
Workshop 1-4pm on 2 dates.
In this class, students will collage textiles onto vintage tea towels to create a unique art hanging - the madder the better! Scarlett will be showing you how to arrange your scraps and secure them onto fabric using a range of hand sewing techniques that are both practical and decorative
After a brief introduction from Scarlett about herself and her work, the class begins with basic hand sewing stitches including needle turn applique, whip stitch, blanket stitch and running stitch. There will be tons of inspiration in the workshop with all materials provided including fabric pens and fabric glue. If you have any textile clippings you want to add to your art piece, feel free to bring them along....anything with some special memory works great such as clothing, napkins, perhaps part of a relatives wedding dress or favourite shirt..?
You will see examples of Scarlett's tea towel dresses on the day and she will be there to answer any questions about upcycling. The more messy, wonky and creative you are the better!......a focus here on being expressive with stitch, not a technical embroidery class. Mostly adults attend however beginner skill level makes this class suitable for age 11 upwards.
