Workshop block print fabric

Block printing onto fabric is a fun activity with great results however, without guidance can be tricky to get right!

Hosted by Print Artist Catherine, you'll learn about block printing theory, understand what materials you need, see examples and technique demonstrations. The class will be a mix of testing out technique on scrap fabric and working on a finished project.

All materials and equipment are provided, the class fee includes 2 canvas tote bags to work with however you can purchase extras from Catherine's shop or bring along anything you source yourself. 

Either use Catherine's wooden carved printing blocks (over 20 to choose from) sourced from India or carve out a simple design of your own onto a rubber stamping block - or both!

Work with specialist block printing inks or use fabric medium. Learn how to transform DIY home emulsion paint tester pots into textile print ink. 

Also work with fabric paints, brushes and stencils to create colour block backgrounds and wash areas to give your design depth and variety. Painting onto fabric is a great way to compliment a block print design, Catherine will show you how. 

A chance here to see examples for ideas of an Artists' own work and past students. Catherine gives full instruction by demonstrations throughout the workshop and a notes handout is given for students to take away. Spend the class time enjoying being creative and working with colour.

A class suitable for beginners age 11 upwards (supervised recommended under 16)
