In this beginners evening class you will see lots of examples before designing your own wall hanging. This can be seascape, landscape, abstract colours or anything you like!

Class starts 6:15pm finish 9pm

Learn all about this historic and natural process from Catherine who learnt about feltmaking in Finland at The Kuopio Arts Academy where she studied over 20 years ago. She will teach you about fibres and how to use them. Complete a test sample before embarking on your wall hanging.

Felting occurs when natural fibres such as wool are exposed to water and friction. The fibres have scales which open up during the felting process and closing down to form a textile material. Felting is the oldest form of creating a fabric - a totally natural process with endless possibilities for creative projects.

You will be encouraged to come up with your own ideas and lead your own projects, with Catherine on hand to talk through process, risks and also a gentle push to challenge yourself.

Choose form over 50 shades of wool fibres to compose your design then learn how to felt together. See her collection of hemp, linen, silks, possum, yak fibre....Catherine will show you how to finish your work to a professional standard, drying and mounting your A4 size work onto a painted branch, embellish with wool tassels if you prefer.

Suitable age 11 upwards supervised.
