The skill to draw is one that many people wish they had. The truth is that we can all draw. The idea of good and bad drawings simply isn't true. If you are interested in traditional arts and looking to become more creative, this workshop is a good place to begin.
Why learn how to draw? Drawing is a wonderful creative outlet. Sketching has therapeutic benefits and educational advantages, promoting self expression and enhancing your perspective. You can combine drawing with other passions such as sport, animals, people or the natural world.
At Clever Hands, there's no such thing as a good or bad drawing. To take a pencil and make a mark on paper is a huge step that many people don't feel brave enough to do. In this relaxed and educational art class hosted by local Artist and tutor Melanie Sullivan, you'll see plenty examples of drawing and sketching techniques. The mystery of how to approach this key life skill is broken down into bite size tasks.
Very often, a bump in confidence along with simple guidance can set you on the right path to discover your creative self. Suitable for beginners and those with some experience, all materials and equipment are provided. Feel free if you already have some kit, to bring it along.
Melanie introduces sketching as a technique from scratch and talks about the different tools and materials available out there: pencil types, graphite, charcoal, inks, paper weights and types.
Technique is explored through a series of short exercises designed to inspire and awaken your creativity: experimental portraits, non dominant hand, upside down drawing, sight size technique, mark making, scale, observational drawing, tonal value, composition.
If you attended a morning taster class, you'll find thsi afternoon session offers more advanced teaching. Leave this class with the confidence and knowledge to continue at home, Melanie shares a note pack of ideas to take away, inspiring you to draw again.
